Two of my kids attended Kids Company (Stellenbosch campus) and we have fond memories of the school. Owner Justine sets the tone - she has a passion for children and really understands child development and this carries through to all the teachers as well. Teacher Zirelda, Marian and Tanya - thank you for the amazing teachers you were to our kiddos.

Home away from home! The most wonderful environment and teachers that we could ever ask for. Our little man is so very happy at ‘school’ and he has grown in leaps and bounds since we started. To also know that he is in safe hands, gives us so much peace every day. Thank you Kids company for always going above and beyond for our children. 🙏🏻

Our son has been attending Kids Company since he was 18 months old and is now about to turn three. I truly can't express how grateful we are for this school. The care and dedication that the teachers show is remarkable and it's evident that they prioritise not only educational growth but also overall well-being. Under their guidance, our son has really flourished and grown into the most well adjusted little human.

Kids Company is exactly what we want and need from a school that is there to teach young ones the fundamentals of life and education. With compassion, care and discipline at the heart of their approach, we've been fortunate to witness first-hand the positive impact they have had on our daughter. Highly recommend them to anyone in the area looking for a school with teachers who truly care.

As an educator, sending my own kids to a school was one of the hardest decisions I had to make, but once I discovered this school, I knew I could entrust my children's holistic development to the staff- handing that day shift of motherhood over also, which is quite intense for a mom who knows the importance of investing in a child's early years. The hybrid methods are perfect for the ages at the school. The transparency with parents is ideal. The classrooms and playground is versatile and safe, with ample supervision at all times. It is a secure safe space for my kids which gives me peace of mind while I'm not around. Definitely a great decision for kids to prep for grade one, eventually, but more importantly -to set them up for life.

The best choice for your little one! My daughter joined kids Company at 18 months old and this is her last year at the school in Grade R. To say that Kids Company is a wonderful team of teachers is simply not doing it justice, they are extended family. They have helped me raise my daughter through out these years. Kids Co slogan "teaching with heart" is a value system applied by the school on a daily basis. I love how much emphasis the school puts on both educational and emotional development. Assisting parents navigating the many different stages our little ones go through is always available through the knowledge and wisdom of the teachers but also the school principle Justine who amazes me with her guidance and practical advice she so freely shares with parents. They will go beyond the extra mile to ensure not only that your child reaches their full potential but that you as a parent are part of the journey. As a lone parent they have been my parenting village and I can not recommend them enough!

We are incredibly grateful to have found Kids Company, and know that you will too when you visit them! Their team are wonderful, and helped our Little One (LO) settle in after we moved to Somerset West and struggled to find a preschool that suited our LO. He quickly settled in at Kids Company, and within a short period of time we could see just how much he loves his classmates and teachers. We were also so pleased to see how he flourished under their Montessori / Traditional Preschool structure. We highly recommend you visit them should you be looking for a gem of a preschool.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you mean by 'Integrated'?

At Kids Company we believe in the best of both worlds which is why we have chosen to integrate the two methodologies. In the child’s day they have a portion of their day assigned to a Montessori work cycle and another portion of their day assigned to group work prepared and delivered by the class teacher. Our classes are of mixed ages except in our Traditional Grade R class. This unique integration is what ensures that the children in our care are fully prepared for the demands of future schooling.

Is Montessori for all children?

Montessori education can benefit children of all backgrounds and abilities. The individualised approach allows each child to learn at their own pace, and the emphasis on hands-on learning and self-directed exploration can help children develop a love for learning.

What happens 'after' Montessori?

Children who attend Montessori schools are well-prepared for traditional educational settings. They often exhibit strong problem-solving skills, independence, and a deep understanding of abstract concepts. Many Montessori students excel in their future academic pursuits.

Since Montessori emphasizes non-competitiveness, how do students adequately prepare for real-life competition later on?

Montessori education aims to develop intrinsic motivation and a love for learning, rather than fostering competition. By focusing on personal growth and mastery, children develop the confidence and skills needed to navigate real-life challenges. Collaboration and respect for others are also emphasized, preparing students for success in various aspects of life.

How does a Montessori classroom work?

Our classrooms are designed to foster independence and self-directed learning. Children have the freedom to choose activities from a carefully prepared environment, which includes hands-on materials that promote exploration and discovery. Teachers act as guides, observing and supporting each child’s individual learning process.

Is Montessori Unstructured?

While Montessori classrooms may appear unstructured to an untrained eye, they are actually highly organised and purposeful. The prepared environment and the use of specific materials provide a structure that allows children to develop concentration, self-discipline, and a sense of order.

Why mixed age groups?

Mixed age groups in Montessori classrooms promote social development and collaborative learning. Younger children learn from observing and interacting with older peers, while older children reinforce their knowledge by teaching and mentoring younger classmates. This arrangement fosters a sense of community and respect.

Are Montessori children free to do whatever they want in the classroom?

While Montessori children have the freedom to choose their activities, this freedom is within the limits of the prepared environment. Teachers carefully observe each child and guide them towards a balanced selection of activities that cover all areas of the curriculum. The classroom is designed to promote exploration and discovery across a wide range of subjects, ensuring a well-rounded education.

How is the curriculum developed?

Our curriculum is carefully designed to meet the developmental needs of children at each stage. It encompasses a wide range of subjects, including practical life skills, sensorial exploration, language, mathematics, science, geography, and cultural studies. The curriculum is based on the principles of self-directed learning and hands-on exploration.

Are Montessori schools religious?

While some Montessori schools may have a religious affiliation, the Montessori philosophy itself is not inherently religious. The focus is on nurturing the whole child, fostering independence, and promoting a love for learning. Religious instruction, if any, is typically separate from the core Montessori curriculum.

Without objective measurements, like grades, How are Montessori kids assessed?

In Montessori schools, assessment is based on careful observation and documentation of each child’s progress. Teachers keep detailed records of a child’s work, noting their strengths, challenges, and areas for growth. Progress is communicated through parent-teacher meetings, written reports, and student portfolios.

How does Montessori handle discipline?

Montessori classrooms promote self-discipline and respect for others. Children are encouraged to resolve conflicts peacefully and to take responsibility for their actions. Teachers model appropriate behaviour and guide children towards making positive choices. When necessary, teachers intervene with gentle redirection and help children understand the consequences of their behaviour.
